Infrastructure Act - Rail

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act includes $65 billion in new funding to improve the U.S. passenger and freight rail network, with the majority going to where passenger rail mostly exists today -- i.e., the northeast corridor. Funding for the Northeast corridor totals about $30 billion of the $65 billion total.

High Speed Rail

The Infrastructure bill did not include any funding any funding specifically for High Speed Rail in the United States. The Build Back Better Act, as passed by the House of Representatives on November 19, 2022, included $10 billion for High Speed Rail. The outcome for this funding is not certain given that the Senate may not consider a version of the Build Back Better Act during the current (117th) Congress.
